God needed a baker in heaven and now he has a great one. William (Bill) E. McCarthy, 79, of Spokane Valley, WA passed away on January 22, 2017. He was born in Ventura, CA on August 9, 1937 to the late Francis and Lillian (Buckle) McCarthy. He graduated from Lewiston High School and later married his former wife, Karen Drader (Arnot). He worked for Albertsons for 25 years and then purchased Mel's Bakery (Veradale, WA) in the mid-1980's which he operated alongside his family until his retirement in 1994.

Bill enjoyed steelhead fishing on the Clearwater River, golfing with his buddies and keeping a meticulous lawn. He was an avid Gonzaga basketball fan and spent endless hours cheering them on with his girls. He loved rebuilding hot rods with his boys and spending time in his swing by the river.

Beloved by his children, Carla Perkins, Michael McCarthy, Patrick McCarthy (Tracey), Kelli Metcalf (Mark), William McCarthy (Karen), his sister, Shannon Trout (Lewiston, ID), 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother, Francis McCarthy and sister, Mary (Pat) Brooking.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane WA. In lieu of flowers, he would ask that you cheer for the Zags and don't take any wooden nickels.
