Walter H. Steinke of Spokane went home to be with the Lord Jesus on January 7, 2017 at the age of 94 years and 8 months. He was born in Gillett, Wisconsin on May 1, 1922. When he was in his twenties, Walt joined the Coast Guard and was stationed during WWII in the Kwajalein Atoll in the South Pacific. When out of the service, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he met and married his bride Marjorie R Beach only 4 months later. They were married 54 years and together they had 3 children. Walt worked for Hughes Aircraft Company in southern California as an engineer for 21 years. He and his wife then moved to Orchard Prairie area of Spokane where they operated a produce farm for many years. Walt was well known in the area for his raspberries, blackberries and "bodacious" sweet corn. He was very much loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but we know he is in the arms of Jesus. He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 2002, his grandson Chas. E. Steinke in 2006, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his 3 children, Dan C Steinke (Oklahoma City, OK), Kristine J Tellier (Milwaukee, WI), and Charisse E. Willis (Loon Lake, WA); one brother, 3 sisters, 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A private service was held with the family. Pastor Kevin Schultz gave the eulogy. Memorial contributions can be given to the Union Gospel Mission, P O Box 4066, Spokane, WA 99220. On-line condolences may be posted at
