Vita Appy Young
December 30, 1927 - January 10, 2017
Vita was born to Newitt P. Gorrell and Florence 'Ethel' Jarvis in Woodward , Oklahoma. The family lived in Oklahoma and Texas while Vita was young. She was the youngest daughter and greatly loved by her three older sisters and one brother. There were three other boys added to the family after Vita, one of which was stillborn. All have preceded her in death. Vita married Edward Franklin Young on September 1, 1951 in Tacoma, WA at the age of 23. They were married for 32 years before Edward passed away. She is survived by two loving sons, Edward Preston Young, Anchorage, Alaska and Gene Franklin Young, Spokane, WA. Vita passed the B&B driving course in 1990, however she most often took the bus and was well known by all the Spokane Transit bus drivers who loved to receive her crochet gifts of coasters and hot pads. Vita delighted to see her crochet items in the Spokane Interstate Fair. Her giving heart shared her talents with many. Vita loved to exercise at the YMCA and had a membership there and went nearly every day for many years. She made many friends through her association at the YMCA. Vita was a hard worker and worked in restaurants in the kitchen. Due to injuries caused by the heavy lifting, she was left unable to work after the age of 45. Many surgeries followed, but she never gave up her determination to exercise. Vita was loved by many and will be missed by all. Her family wishes to thank all who help care for her these past four years as her health declined. A visitation will be held on Monday, Jan 16th from 3-5PM at Hennessey Funeral Home. Vita will interred at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon with her husband.
