Pete R Brickner passed away in the Spokane Valley on Friday, January 6, 2017. He was born on November 11, 1926, in Strasburg, ND.  He grew up one of 15 children in a farming community.  After high school, he became a printer, and in later years, was promoted to Classified Advertising Manager for the Spokesman-Review/Spokane Chronicle where he worked for nearly 40 years.

From Strasburg, Pete moved to Aberdeen SD where he met his wife, Ruth.  They were married from February 18, 1947, until Ruthie died on August 31, 2006.  Pete and Ruth had five children including Jane Jones, Margie (Wayne) Pietz, Russ (Lisa), Peter (Debbie) & Mary Kay (Scott) Townsend, ten grandchildren (Amy, Tony, Jeff, Janine, Andrew, Michelle, Mike, Jacob, Alex and Elena), and 8 ½ great-grandchildren.

Pete was very involved in the Catholic Church and in the community, including volunteer hours with the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, Meals on Wheels, the Spokane Blood Bank and St. Francis Xavier Parish.  His outstanding service was recognized by the Church when he was awarded the International Catholic Stewardship Award in New Orleans in 2004.

Pete loved serving his community and his church.  He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and cribbage, watching Gonzaga basketball and reading his beloved daily newspaper.

We must now say goodbye and know that he's back to playing cards with Ruthie and the many friends who've predeceased him.  As Pete would say, "What will be, will be!"

No flowers please. Remembrances can be made in Pete's honor to any of the many organizations he loved serving.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 13th from 10AM to 6:30PM at Hennessey Funeral Home with a Rosary following at 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday January 14th at 10 AM at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 545 E. Providence. On-line condolences may be posted at www.hennessyfuneralhomes.com
