Joann Mary Dunlap, Spokane WA, passed away peacefully at Hospice House, South on December 16, 2016. She was born in Spokane to Edna and Joseph McNabb on August 21, 1928. Joann attended St. Augustine's grade school, Holy Names Academy and Washington State College, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After college, she worked at Washington Water Power until she married Kenneth Dunlap on June 1, 1957. Joann provided a loving home for her children's school years while working part time with Ken at Skagg's Automotive. Joann served as the president of St. Augustine's Altar Society, and as a lector and Eucharistic minister there as well. She also spent many years as bookkeeper for St. Luke's Auxiliary Gift Shop. Joann was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Edna McNabb, and her brother John (Katherine). She is survived by her husband Ken, sons Steven (Amy) and Michael, granddaughters Sydney Jo and Cassidy (Cook), brothers Paul (Barbara) and Joe (Lyta), and many nieces and nephews. A vigil will be held at St. Augustine's Church Wed, Dec 28, 5:30pm and a funeral Mass on Thursday, December 29 at 11:00am, also at St. Augustine's Church. Joann's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and nurses aides on the tenth floor of Deaconess Hospital, as well as the nurses and aides in Skilled Nursing at Touchmark on South Hill. Special thanks to nurse Medina Fisher, aide Sophia and social worker Rick Fairbanks who ministered to Joann at home under hospice care. And, in her final days, the people of Hospice House South for giving her comfort. Memorials and or donations may be given to The Hutton Settlement, Catholic Charities, St. Augustine's Parish or Hospice of Spokane.
