He was stationed at several bases throughout his military career including Aviano Air Force Base in Italy, Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, Eglin Air Force in Florida, and Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington. Fred served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. Fred became a SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance Escape) Instructor while stationed at Fairchild and remained a SERE Instructor until he retired. Fred retired from the Air Force while stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base after 20+ years of military service. Following his military retirement, Fred worked at Eastern State Hospital until he retired after several years of service.
Fred was extremely proud to have served his country and especially proud to have been a SERE Instructor. He loved to tell stories about his times as a SERE Instructor to friends and family and continued to attend the graduation ceremonies of newly graduating instructors up until the time of his death. He was an amazing wood worker, dancer, and outdoorsman. He loved camping and was an avid Seahawks fan. He also dearly loved Christmas and always made it such a special time for his family. Fred was a loving and caring person, brother, father and grandfather. He touched many lives with his thoughtfulness and kindness and his cheerful personality.
Fred is survived by his sisters Kristina Rademacher, Leslie Goff, Sharon Ewers, and Judy Smith; his brother, Mike McCormack; his children, Kenneth Hoeche, Susan Brown, Kim Barkley, Troy Hoeche and Michele Velez; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
